The number of people evacuated from New Orleans to date is now 42,000 (reported at 8:25 p.m. GMT on September 3, 2005).
Evacuations are now moving at a faster pace than a few days ago, when the pace was unacceptably slow.
Many citizens who stayed in the New Orleans Convention Center and the Superdome are still awaiting evacuation.
